One of the last new products announcements for the year comes from Dune HD , which just announced their new Mini PC named Dune HD Solo 4K.

Dune HD Solo 4K will use a SoC developed by SigmaDesigns, which is know for providing some of the best SoC's in terms of video quality.

SigmaDesigns SMP8758 comes with a dual core ARM CPU (clocked at 1.2GHz) and a quad core GPU (Mali-400 MP4) which is supposed to be 4 times more powerful than any of the other Dune HD models to date.

As the product name suggests, Dune HD Solo 4K will support 4K video decoding with pixel-to-pixel precision, H.265/HEVC up to 10-bit and what's even more interesting it's the "professional video upscaling with VXP technology".

The device will be media-oriented, supporting true 24p output and will be able to play Blu-ray images from USB/HDD/network (with full-menu).

Dune Solo 4K will come with a built-in DVBT/T2 tuner combo and will be able to accommodate an 2.5'' hot-swappable SATA HDD internally.

Connectivity-wise, the Mini PC will have Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11ac Wi-Fi - 2.4 and 5.0 GHz, 2T2R (two antennas).
The device will have two USB 2.0 ports (one in front, one on the back), composite video and analog stereo audio (via included 3.5mm A/V connector with 3xRCA adapter), coaxial S/PDIF (on A/V connector via software switch)and IR extender port with included IR eye cable.
HDMI port version is just 1.4b, so max video output is limited to 4Kp30.

Video and audio file format support is excellent, Solo 4K supporting DVD and BluRay ISO's (with full menu and BDlite), several 3D formats(MVC, Side-by-side, Top/Bottom) and a variety of framerates (23.976, 25, 29.97, 50, 59.94).
Audiophiles are not forgotten either with HD audio with high resolution up to 24-bit /192 KHz.
Speaking about audio, Solo 4K will support HD audio passthrough (Dolby True HD, DTS HD MA) and even Dolby Atmos 3D audio.

Dune HD Solo 4K will dual boot Android and Linux.

There are several other interesting things about the device:

  • - Control4 support (Smart Home)
  • - built-in Z-Wave controller (optional) - again, Smart Home

Dune HD Solo 4K will be available from February at a suggested retail price of 300 Euros.
