Fall is officially just a few days away and after a slow-news summer we'll finally have something interesting to show and talk about.
And we start with one of the most interesting devices that will be announced this fall : the new Minix device we all knew it was in the works will be announced at IFA... tomorrow.

The fact that Minix will announce their new device at IFA Berlin is already a tradition, Minix has already done so multiple times in the past - and with so much success that once one of their prototypes even got stolen :-).

This year we have the MINIX NEO J50C-4, which is powered by the Intel Pentium Silver J5005 (10W TDP), so it's not just a version bump.
After all J5005 is the most powerful "Gemini Lake" SoC made by Intel : but NEO J50C-4 also impresses with the 4K/UHD playback and streaming - 4K @ 60Hz on up to 3 screens, and comes with a VESA mount so you could keep it nicely tucked away behind a monitor.

Where to buy Minix J50C-4

Minix J50C-4 can be purchased from GearBest .

Did I mention that J50C-4 is expandable?
You can change the ROM, by choosing to buy the ready-made 128 GB Minix NEO J5-SSD, which is preinstalled with Windows 10 Pro and will work without any further hassle. Or you can use another 2280 M.2 SSD - up to 512GB!
You can also upgrade the RAM to two 8GB on each of the two SODIMM slots, giving you up to 16 GB of RAM, so you can start a few VM's as well on NEO J50C-4 (as I am now doing on it's predecessor).

As with the previous generation, MINIX NEO J50C-4 comes with a VESA mount, and can be used for both work or leisure - the device is designed to work 24/7, so you can use it as a server at home or for commercial applications at work.

Fanless? No.
But after using the Neo N42C-4 for months now, I can confirm that noise it's not an issue for it, and I don't see that changing with the new NEO J50C-4.

Want to experience the device before anyone else? you can do that if you're visiting IFA Berlin these days - just head on to the Minix booth - Hall 17, Booth 126.

Minix Neo W2
Almost forgot to mention another interesting product that will be shown off by Minix at the aforementioned booth - the backlit QWERTY keyboard named Minix Neo W2.
Minix is known to have an assortment of nice airmice and mini-keyboards (K2 is my favorite)- but the Neo W2 is special - this one is designed as a companion for J50C-4, with dedicated Windows 10 buttons, backlit keys, built-in airmouse - basically anything you need for a smoother Win10 experience.
